GRADUATE COUNCIL PROCEDURES 3/13/70 GC to consider everything pertaining to graduate studies for the first quarter and after that define certain groups and committees with specific responsibilities. 4/3/70 Agreed that the chair and others from the initiating department should be invited when GC is evaluating a graduate degree program. 4/17/70 Dean Corbin indicated that it would be to CSU's advantage if the guidelines on timing were such that graduate program proposals cleared GC, FC, the Trustees, and the State Graduate Deans' Comm. by 9/1. Then North Central's inspection team could arrive before year's end. It is essential that proposal for initiation in the fall be cleared by Jan. 1. 5/22/70 Agreed that GC should not at this time be involved in distributing graduate college money and that this responsibility was to remain with the Graduate Dean. 10/15/75 Felt that standing committee chairs should handle problems of committee members who are unable to regularily attend meetings. 1/14/76 Agreed that a 2-person subcommittee from GC would be advisable to work with new program proposers. 10/11/78 Smoking banned from GC meetings. 4/16/80 Urban Affairs College's request for membership discussed. 11/15/82 Approved sending the minutes to all university faculty members. 10/3/84 Eliminated confidential return envelopes from the Graduate Council election process. 1/10/89 Resolved issue of a faculty member's objection to the Urban Affairs representation referendum. 2/9/15 Confirmed that Graduate Council meetings are not open meetings. Guest attendees will be called when their proposals are being considered. 11/8/17 Approved having a voting student member on Graduate Council - By-law revision will be on spring elections ballot.
