MAJOR OBJECTIVES

                The major objective during my quarter of professional
          leave is to develope a statistics manual for use by students
          and practitioners.  Such a manual would provide quick problem
          solving stategies and computer solutions to relevant
          problems in business statistics.  The emphasis is on data
          analysis using statistical software such as SAS and MYSTAT.
                Business students need a clear understanding of
          statistical methods and their applications to help them in
          their course work.  Managers need a quick reference manual
          to help them solve problems in the real world.
                The analysis of data has become a major influence in
          all institutions.  However, most individuals are not familiar
          with the software available to help them solve problems.
          Statistics is an area that is avoided because of two
          reasons: (1) The theory and concepts are too difficult and
          (2) The computations are too cumbersome.
                The goal of this manual is to cut through the theory
          and offer a practical guide to statistics.  The emphasis is
          on a strategy for problem solving using computer solutions.
