Jenks discussed. 4/14/71 The Dean stated that a G.A. implies a one-half teaching load and that it is possible to teach more than one-half time fall-spring quarters in order to release time from teaching during the summer. 7/18/75 Felt CSU should develop standardized policies and procedures and a "clearinghouse" to handle graduate assistantships. 7/31/75 Approved main procedural points of a proposed G.A. policy statement. Dean will redraft statement for further review. 11/17/76 Approved awarding only full 20-hour/week full-tuition assistantships. 4/13/77 Graduate Assistantship Policy approved. 5/11/77 Graduate Assistantship Policy revised at President's request to remove reference to specific stipends. 10/11/78 Recommended that the Assistantship Policy should remain as is with the addition of notation to define use of quarter and half time terms. 1/23/80 Revised Point 6 of the Assistantship policy adding: "on rare occasions or under unusual circumstances, departments may petition for exemption to the regulation". 1/12/83 Approved revised Graduate Student Research Support Awards Program. 10/19/83 Approved funding for the routine research support proposal; and that only those items within proposals be funded. 11/9/83 Left required GPA for initial appointment and continuation as a Graduate Assistant unchanged. 5/10/84 All graduate assistants are to be paid through Payroll Office rather than through disbursement orders. 2/19/86 Motion to increase the GPA for continuance of graduate assistants defeated. 4/23/86 Travel expenses to be incorporated into the Student Research Support Award Program. 12/16/86 Agreed that start and stop dates should be a part of the graduate assistant's contracts and that the stipend level should reflect the specified period. The University calendar reflects the definition of a quarter. Agreements which do not fall within his timeframe should be clearly indicated on the Agreement form. 3/7/89 Placed moritorium on funding the Student Research Award Program and to evaluate the program during 1989 summer quarter. 10/24/89 Student Reseach Award Program funding moritorium lifted with winter quarter 1990. Agreed to cap funding levels at $500 - non-theis exit project, $1000 - Master's theses, and $1500 - doctoral dissertations. 1/16/90 Moved that after July 1, 1991, CSU will not provide financial support to doctoral students having earned 260 credit hours beyond rate. 6/12/90 GC to review proposals for the use of pre-master's teaching assistants as independent instructors. Units currently using pre-master's teaching assistants must submit proposal to GC. 12/11/90 English, Communications, & HPER Dept. given exceptions for using T.A.s as instructors. Other depts. using T.A.s as instructors should submit proposals for GC's approval. 12/10/91 Capped FY 1992 spending at $2000 beyond present committments. 11/26/96 Approved proposal calling for a 2.5 Law GPA and a 3.0 graduate GPA as appropriate minimum eligibilty requirements for a full-time degree-seeking students to hold a graduate assistantship. 1/14/97 Approved that under the new semester system graduate assistants must register for 9-12 hrs. as determined by the individual graduate program directors. 12/2/97 Approved that regular graduate students not holding assistantships, or graduate tutition recipients who provide a maximum 9 hr./wk of service, may be considered to be registered full-time if they take 8 or more graduate credit hr. per term. 3/10/98 Approved minimum registration requirement of 9 semester hours per term for graduate assistants and graduate tuition grant recipients who are required to provide 10 hr./wk. to the University. 3/10/98 Reaffirmed its 12/2/97 action that regular graduate students not holding assistantships, or graduate tutition recipients who provide a maximum 9 hr./wk of service, may be considered to be registered full-time if they take at least 8 graduate credit hr. per term. 2/2/99 Decided not to raise minimum registration for graduate assistants to 12 hours. 2/16/99 Reaffirmed the minimum registration requirement for graduate assistants, which allows graduate assistants to enroll for 9 or 12 hours depending on departmental choice. 2/12/09 Raised stipend levels from $3480to $4600 a semester for master's students and from $3900 to $5250 for doctoral students. 12/6/10 Revised Graduate Catalog language about minimum required credit hours (8) for graduate assistants. 9/15/14 GC agreed that financial aid offers can be made prior to April 15 and students can be encouraged to respond early, but if students do not, recourse is limited. 4/10/15 Graduate Student Awards guidelines approved with two revisions.
