Join the Celebration!

Join us in celebrating our region's active artist's community of book and paper innovators and our magnificent library and museum collections of fine and rare books. Join artists and book lovers to learn about our local rich resources and the exciting world of contemporary book and paper arts.

Visit local venues where printmakers, paper sculptors, conservators, and bookbinders are exploring, creating, preserving, and exhibiting works that use one of humankind's greatest technologies: books and paper. Start out with some of the featured events below or browse through the lectures, tours and demonstrations and the exhibits to make your own itinerary.

Octavofest Kick-Off at the Cleveland Public Library

  • Friday, October 1, 6:00 pm
    "Curator, Educator, Artist: The Book Arts Revealed"
    • Opening Reception & Panel Discussion - with Cristine Rom, Gund Library Director at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Barbara Stanczak, Professor of Art at the Cleveland Institute of Art, and Bonné de Blas, Director of Art Books Cleveland.
    • The panel will discuss aspects of the artistic and visual experience of Book Arts such as collecting and exhibiting, composition and craftsmanship, and creation and marketing of these unique works.

Openings & Open Houses at the Morgan

    "Third Annual Open House and Silent Auction (Year of the Kozo)"
    Join us for great food, great live entertainment, and great art. This annual fund raiser is a proven hit and helps the Morgan Conservatory further its mission in producing and preserving the art of hand papermaking, book, and paper arts.

      Please join us from 8 to 10 pm as we feature readings by Jim Meirose, Meredith Holmes, Sammy Greenspan, and Robert Miltner as part of the city-wide Octavofest celebration of book and paper arts. Our guest emcees are John Burroughs and Dianne Borsenik of Lix and Kix. An open mic will follow.

    Tour CSU’s fabulous new Student Center with Sandra Emerick, Associate Dean of Students. The tour will focus on the art and architecture of the building, including a special viewing of the Depression era mural by artist Elmer Brown, restored by the Intermuseum Conservation Association.
